Embark on a Journey Through the Mind of Dr. Randy Roso, Ph.D.
The Multifaceted Scholar who embodies the essence of "Lifelong Learning."
Dr. Roso's academic journey is one of continuous exploration and deepening. His expertise extends across a broad spectrum of disciplines, from sociology, which studies the complexities of human interactions and social structures, to philosophy, which probes fundamental questions about existence, knowledge, and morality.
We are reminded that true strength lies in our ability to respect and appreciate each other's differences, to show solidarity together, and to build a more compassionate and understanding community for all.
It is a journey of self-discovery, where we explore our own processes of perception and interpretation and unravel the subjective nature of our reality.
This creeping monster feeds on our ambition, our dedication and our pursuit of perfection until it devours our mental and physical well-being mercilessly.
We are inundated with information, deadlines and expectations, while at the same time trying to live a balanced life. It is no wonder that stress and burnout have reached epidemic proportions.
Ethical considerations on tolerance and its limits. Philosophy delves into fundamental questions about existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. It's a vast field with many branches, but its core is about exploring the big "why" questions and trying to understand our place in the world.
Thinkers like Plato, Aristotle, and Confucius pondered concepts like justice, truth, and the good life. Modern philosophers like Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre explored existentialism and the nature of freedom.
Philosophy isn't just about abstract ideas; it has practical applications too. It can help us develop critical thinking skills, make informed decisions, and live more meaningful lives.
Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions. It explores how society shapes individuals and how individuals shape society. Think of it as the study of "us," examining everything from how groups form and interact to the impact of social structures like race, class, and gender.
Sociologists might study trends like urbanization, the effects of social media, or the causes of inequality. They use various research methods, like surveys, interviews, and observations, to understand social phenomena.
Ultimately, sociology helps us understand the complex world around us, shedding light on why people behave the way they do and how we can create a more just and equitable society.
How people think about and react to others who are different. Social psychology explores the fascinating interplay between individuals and their social world. It investigates how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others.
Imagine this: you're in a crowded room, and someone starts laughing. Do you instinctively look to see what's funny? That's social influence at play. Social psychologists study phenomena like conformity, persuasion, prejudice, and attraction, seeking to understand how social dynamics shape our perceptions and actions.
They delve into questions like: Why do people conform to group norms? How do stereotypes form and affect our behavior? What factors contribute to attraction and love? By understanding these social processes, we gain valuable insights into human behavior and the complexities of social interaction.
Self-help is a genre focused on personal growth and development. It offers guidance and strategies for individuals seeking to improve their lives, overcome challenges, and achieve their goals.
While approaches vary, many self-help books offer practical advice, exercises, and techniques to help readers make positive changes. Think of it as a toolbox for personal growth, providing resources and support for those on a journey of self-improvement.
The concept of tolerance and acceptance is not new, but the rapidly changing dynamics of our contemporary world have further emphasized its importance. We see that political, social, cultural and religious divisions are growing, making it increasingly difficult to balance respecting different points of view with maintaining our own integrity, which is often forgotten.
My book has its origins in 2018, on November 18, 2018, when my daughter and daughter-in-law were driving home from Disneyland Paris (The Netherlands) and were stuck on the A2 near Trith-Saint-Leger (France) at 4 p.m., due to one of the very first protests by the Yellow Vests over increased fuel prices. In recent years, we have noticed a trend of increasing polarization and growing contradictions worldwide. This polarization manifested itself at different levels, such as political, social, cultural and even religious. One of the main drivers of this polarization comes from the emergence of new communication technologies and social media. While these technologies have made it easier to communicate and share information with others, they have also created echo chambers and filter bubbles. People are often exposed to information that confirms their existing beliefs, thus widening the gap between different groups. We have witnessed this not only in Europe, but globally among others during the Corona (COVID-19) Pandemic protests, January 6th Insurrection - Capitol Attack, but also by Extinction Rebellion, Occupy (Wallstreet) Movement, Farmers protests, other demonstrations, rallies and demonstrations.
